New gas reserve found in Noakhali

Gas was found at four levels in a well at Ambarnagar union of Sonaimuri upazila in Noakhali.

The Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company (BAPEX) made the announcement on Tuesday. 

The BAPEX found natural gas reserve while drilling at 3,113 metres deep well at Wasekpur village under Ambarnagar union of Sonaimuri upazila in Noakhali.

Md Asaduzzaman, in charge of drilling the Begumganj-4 (West) valuation well, confirmed the matter to the media. 

On April 29, drilling of the well was officially inaugurated and it was completed ahead of schedule, he said. Now, the extractable gas reserve will be fixed, he added.

It would be able to extract 10 million cubic feet of gas per day from each of the four zones, said BAPEX.

Later, the gas supply will be added to the national grid through Bakhrabad.
