183 factories closed in Ashulia

Labour unrest in the ready-made garment sector continues despite efforts to meet the workers' demands as new demands are being made. For the 13th day in a row, workers continue to abstain from work at various factories in Ashulia and Gazipur on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, miscreants set fire to a factory named Big Boss in Kaliakoir. They even obstructed a fire service vehicle. Moreover, factory goods were looted.

Such a situation prompted 183 factories to close on Wednesday. 54 of these factories were closed under section 13 (1) of the labour law. The workers will not get wages as long as the factories are closed under the rule of 'no work no pay'. Following this announcement, many workers flocked to the factory to return to work. 

However, factory authorities claimed that some outsiders were preventing the factories from opening. 

In light of this situation, Adviser on Labour and Employment Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan held an emergency meeting on Wednesday. He announced the formation of a committee by the government to find out the real facts behind the labour unrest.
