Interim govt can't solve everything: Rehman Sobhan

It is not possible to bring the country out of various problems within a short time. The interim government cannot solve everything, Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) Chairman Professor Rehman Sobhan has said. 

He made the remarks during a symposium titled "White Paper and Thereafter: Economic Management, Reforms and National Budget" at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the capital on Saturday. Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya, a Distinguished Fellow of CPD, conducted the event. 

Mentioning several glaring weak points of the economy including loan defaulters, money laundering, mismanagement of banks etc, Prof Sobhan said, "None of these (problems) are new. These problems have persisted for long. The lack of accountability in the last 16 years has intensified these problems."

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also spoke at the event. He said BNP would try to make sure that loan defaulters do not get nominated by their party.
