Fourth instalment of IMF loan deferred to June: Salehuddin Ahmed

Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed on Monday said the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is likely to release the fourth instalment of a $4.7 billion loan for Bangladesh in June.

Earlier, the lending organization set March to release the fourth instalment.

The executive board of the multilateral lender will sit on discussion in this regard on 12 March.

Salehuddin Ahmed was talking to reporters after a session at the Deputy Commissioner (DC) conference in the capital.

He said the government will not comply with all of the terms and conditions although there is a requirement from the lender.

He said the government urged the IMF to assess the progress of the implementation of the conditions of the loan.

The IMF loan was approved for Bangladesh in January 2023 to overcome the forex crisis, in June.
