Stocks extend gaining streak

Country's both the bourses-- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)-- on Wednesday witnessed an upward trend like earlier as investors continued their buying spree on large-cap issues amid optimism.

DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, advanced by 16.8 points to settle at 5,216 points, as against 5,199 points in the previous trading session.

The Indices remained upbeat throughout today's trading session as buyers maintained their dominance, while the market recovery was also aided by some price appreciation in particular large-cap scrips.

Meanwhile, market turnover also increased by 9.8% to around 2-week high of Taka 4.5 billion as against Taka 4.1 billion in the previous session.

On the sectoral front, Food (17.5%) issues exerted the highest tumover, followed by Pharma (13.0%) and Textile (12.5%) sectors. Sectors displayed mixed returns, out of which Food (0.8%), Textile (0.7%) and General Insurance (0.5%) exhibited the most positive returns on the bourse today, while Life Insurance (-1.3%), Miscellaneous (-0.9%) and Paper (-0.5%) exerted the most corrections. Out of the 397 issues traded, 190 advanced, 137 declined and 70 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, also witnessed a positive session today.

The Selective Categories Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) also rose by 47.1 points and 72.1 points, respectively.
