Islamic banks to be merged into two big banks: BB Governor

Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur has said that all Islamic banks in the country will be merged into two big banks.

“Islamic banks will be completely revamped. There is one big and many small Islamic banks. Many of them are facing problems. These banks will be merged to form two big Islamic banks,” he said.

The governor added, “We do not have a proper regulatory framework for Islamic banks. Therefore, laws and supervision systems will be introduced for Islamic banks. All this will be done following global best practices.”

Ahsan H Mansur was addressing as the chief guest at the inauguration of the two-day 10th Annual Banking Conference-2025 organised by the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) in the city on Wednesday.

Chairman of Grameen Bank and Vice-Chancellor of North South University Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, chaired by BIBM Director General Md Akhtaruzzaman, presented the keynote address in the conference.
