Govt on track for timely LDC graduation: Anisuzzaman

The government is actively preparing to graduate from Least Developed Country (LDC) status by November 2026, according to Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser. 

However, he noted that the next elected government could request a postponement if desired.

Speaking at a seminar titled LDC Graduation and Bangladesh’s Readiness organised by the Economic Reporters Forum (ERF) on Saturday, Chowdhury remarked, “Bangladesh’s economy was in critical condition under the previous government, akin to being in the ICU. Since August 5, we have stabilised it. Previously, it relied on ‘life support’ due to a foreign exchange reserve crisis and soaring inflation. Over the past year, the economy has been recovering steadily, and preparations are underway to meet the LDC graduation timeline.”

The seminar was attended by notable figures, including the Chief Advissr’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, BKMEA President Mohammad Hatem, Bangladesh Association of Pharmaceuticals Industries (BAPI) CEO Mustafizur Rahman, and Policy Exchange Bangladesh Chairman M Mashrur Riaz. 

ERF President Daulat Akhter Mala presided over the event, which was moderated by General Secretary Abul Kashem.
