255 foreign ships docked at Mongla Port in 117 days of current FY

Mongla Port, the country's second-largest seaport, witnessed the anchoring of 255 foreign commercial ships in the first 117 days of the current 2025-26 fiscal year (FY), boosting its revenue earnings.

Of the total ships, 18 carried 10,608 TEU containers, while 10 ships imported 3,253 cars of different brands, according to the Mongla Port Authority (MPA).

From July 1 to October 25, 2025, a total of 47 lakh tonnes of goods were handled at the port, said MPA Deputy Director (Public Relations) Muhammad Makruzzaman.

He said several measures taken by the interim government have contributed to increasing ship arrivals at Mongla Port.

At present, 227 foreign ships carrying fertiliser, clinker, LPG, coal and stone remain anchored at the port's jetties and permanent anchorage points, including Harbaria, Base Creek, Sundori Kota and Mooring Boya.

Makruzzaman said Mongla Port has been playing a vital role in the economic development of the southwestern region by creating employment and facilitating imports and exports.

Goods imported through the port include food grains, cement raw materials, fertilisers, automobiles, machinery, coal, oil, stone, corn, oilseeds and LPG, while exports include fish, shrimp, jute and jute goods, frozen food, crabs, clay tiles, silk cloth and other general cargo.

He added that the import of reconditioned cars through Mongla Port has increased as importers are showing growing interest in using the facility.

Welcoming businessmen, the MPA official said 40 per cent of the port's capacity remains available and no tax has been increased this year for using the port.
