BSEC appoints new chairman, three commissioners

Masud Khan of Unilever Consumer Care has been appointed as the chairman of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC).
Female lawyer Nahid Mahtab, Finance Director of Asha International Tanvir Habib Rahman and Managing Director (MD) of Dhaka Bank Securities Nafiz-al-Tariq have been appointed as the three commissioners.
Their appointments have been finalised by the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance.
Each of them has been appointed for a period of four years.
They will go to the BSEC office at 3 pm today.
Earlier, Khandaker Rashed Maqsood and four commissioners Md. Mohsin Chowdhury, Md. Ali Akbar, Farzana Lalarukh and Md. Saifuddin submitted their resignations to the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance.
Capital market stakeholders say that in the current situation, the biggest challenge facing the new leadership of BSEC will be to restore investor confidence, ensure good governance in the market, and take effective steps to resolve long-standing structural problems.
