Islami Bank gets special loan of Tk 2,500 crore

Islami Bank has received a special loan or liquidity support of Tk 2,500 crore from Bangladesh Bank to address the cash crisis. 

However, the bank applied for loan of Tk 10,000 crore . 

It is reported that this support was provided by the central bank on Sunday.

The move has been going on since Eid demanding the removal of the new chairman of Islami Bank. 

Recently, a huge amount of deposits have been withdrawn from the bank, forcing the bank to apply to the central bank last week for liquidity support of Tk 10,000 crore. 

Following the request, Tk 2,500 crore was provided in the first phase.

Governor Mostakur Rahman hinted at providing liquidity support to Islami Bank at the post-budget press conference last Friday. 

He said that there is nothing to panic for depositors. 

The crisis of Islami Bank will end soon, he said, adding that depositors will not have any problem withdrawing their money.
