Islami Bank gets another special loan of Tk 2,500 crore

Bangladesh Bank's Executive Director Mohammad Zahir Hossain has assumed the responsibility of the board of directors of Islami Bank. 

Bangladesh Bank has given the bank another special loan of Tk 2,500 crore on Monday. 

However, the bank's acting managing director Altaf Hussain said that the pressure to withdraw money has reduced.

Taking charge, Bangladesh Bank Executive Director Mohammad Zahir Hossain said, there is no time to look back now. 

He urged depositors to continue their transactions without any problems and requested them to have confidence in the bank.

He said that a process is underway to quickly form a full board of directors with qualified and completely impartial people. 

Acting Managing Director Md. Altaf Hossain and senior officials were present during the briefing at the head office of Islami Bank.

Regarding the formation of the board of directors in Islami Bank, Mohammad Zahir Hossain said that the process of forming a full board of five members is underway. \

He said, “We want to provide completely impartial people here, who can manage this bank efficiently. Hopefully, you will get an impartial board very soon.”

He is serving as a one-member board for a limited time, so that there is no disruption in the bank's operations.

Acting Managing Director (MD) of Islami Bank Altaf Hussain said that the bank has received another Tk2,500 crore as liquidity support from Bangladesh Bank.

He said, "Yesterday too, we received Tk2,500 crore from Bangladesh Bank. The entire amount has not been used yet. Hopefully, those who withdrew money in panic will return with confidence in the bank."

Altaf Hussain also said that information received from a big branch of the country showed that the number of account closures has decreased by about 75 percent compared to the previous period, which is a positive sign that customers' confidence is returning.

Regarding the use of the former chairman's car, he said that the chairman uses a car as per the bank's rules. The car will be taken back as soon as the letter of removal is handed over to him.

When asked about the reinstatement of former MD Omar Faruk, Mohammad Zahir Hossain, who is in charge of the board, said that he has already submitted his resignation and the board of directors has accepted it. Therefore, there is no chance of reinstating him.
