Price of 12kg LPG cylinder reduced by Tk357

The Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has significantly reduced the prices of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and autogas at the consumer level. 

According to the new decision, the price of a 12kg LPG cylinder has been reduced by Tk357 to Tk1,528. At the same time, the price of autogas has been reduced by Tk16.53 per litre to Tk70.40.

The new price was announced in an order issued by BERC on Thursday. 

It will come into effect from 6pm on Thursday and will remain in force until further orders.

BERC said that the price has been adjusted in line with the international market price as per the Contract Price (CP) announced by Saudi Aramco for the month of July. 

The CP of propane for the current month has been set at US$580 per metric tonne and US$600 for butane. 

The average CP of the two gases in the ratio of 35:65 has been set at US$593. In addition, the new price has been set considering the ship fare and trader’s premium of US$180 per metric tonne for LPG import and the average exchange rate of Tk123 .08 per dollar.

According to the announcement, the maximum retail price of bottled LPG per kg is Tk127.30. Accordingly, the price of a 12.5kg cylinder is Tk1,591. 

In addition, 15kg is Tk1,910, 16kg is Tk2,377, 18kg is Tk2,291, 20kg is Tk2,546, 22kg is Tk2,801, 25kg is Tk3,183, 30kg is Tk3,819, 33kg is Tk4,201, 35kg is Tk4,456 and 45kg is Tk5,729.

The price of LPG supplied in liquid form through the reticulated method has also been fixed at Tk123.55 per kg. And the price of LPG supplied in gaseous form has been fixed by the commission at Tk274.50 per cubic metre. The order also states that bottled LPG, reticulated LPG or autogas cannot be sold at a price higher than the price fixed by the commission.

However, the price of government LPG has been kept unchanged. The price of a 12.5 kg government LPG cylinder will remain at Tk776.93 as before.

On June 2, BERC had reduced the price of a 12kg LPG cylinder from Tk1,940 to Tk1,885. At the same time, the price of autogas was reduced from Tk89.50 per litre to Tk86.93. As a result of the new adjustment, the price of a 12kg cylinder has decreased by another Tk357 in a month.
