NBR asked to reduce import duty on daily commodities

Considering the overall market situation, the cabinet has directed the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to reduce VAT on import of edible oil, sugar and other daily necessities.

The directive came from a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday, Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam said.

He said, “There is 15 percent VAT on edible oil import stage. The NBR has been instructed to think about on how and how much it can be reduced. It has been asked to reduce import duty on edible oil, sugar and other essential commodities. ”
