Another Gazipur boiler blast victim dies

Another person who received burn injuries in a boiler explosion at a tyre factory at Pubail in Gazipur on Saturday died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) early Sunday.

 

The deceased was identified as Abdul Kader, 50, reports UNB.

 

Sources at the DMCH said Abdul Kader, who was undergoing treatment at the hospital burn unit with 95 per cent burn injures, died about 5:20 am.

 

Six people, including a schoolteacher, were burned to death and 10 others suffered injuries as a fire broke out after a boiler exploded at a tyre factory at Pubail in Gazipur on Statuary.

 

Three of the deceased were identified as Siddika Rahman Doly, a teacher of Boroibari Govt Primary School of the locality and wife of Delwar Hossain of Pubail area of the city, factory workers Selim, son of late Mannan of Basugaon in Pubail, and Abdur Razzak, hailing from Madaripur district.

 

The schoolteacher was passing by the factory on a rickshaw during the explosion.

 

Hasibur Rahman, an officer of Joydebpur Fire Station, said the fire broke out following a boiler blast at the tin-roofed factory in Bhadon area around 4:15 pm.

 

On information, two fire-fighting units from Joydebpur rushed in and brought the fire under control around 5:40 pm.

 

The injured were taken to different local hospitals and Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital and Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

 

Nearly 30 people were working in the factory, locals said.
