73.16% votes cast in municipal polls: Anisul Huq

Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Anisul Huq, also in-charge of Election Commission Secretariat in Parliament, today said 73.16 percent votes were cast in municipal elections on December 30, 2015, reports BSS.

 

"The municipality elections were held for the first time with symbol of political parties and a total of 20 political parties participated in the polls," he said while replying to a question from treasury bench member Begum Fazilatun Nesa Bappy in the House.

 

The minister said the parties took part in the polls are: Bangladesh Awami League, Jatiya Party, Bangladesh Nationalist Party-BNP, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD, Bikalpadhara Bangladesh, Bangladesher Biplobi Workers Party, Bangladesher Workers Party, Jatiya Party-JP, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, National Peoples Party, Progotishil Gonotantrik Dal-PDP, Khelafat Mojlish, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal, Communist Party of Bangladesh, Tarikat Federation of Bangladesh, Islami Oikyajote, Islami Andolon Bangladesh, Bangladesh National Awami Party NAP and Bangladesh Islami Front.

 

He informed the House that the government reformulated the Municipal (code of conduct) Rules-2015 for ensuring free and fair municipality elections.

 

In this regard, an executive magistrate was deployed in each municipality during the election, Anisul Huq added.
