Ferry services on Padma resume after hours of halt

Ferry services on the Shimulia-Kawrakandi and Daulatdia-Paturia routes in the Padma River resumed after several hours of  disruption caused by dense fog obscured visibility on Wednesday morning.

 

Mahiuddin Russel, manager (Commercial) of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation at Aricha, said ferry service on the Paturia-Daulatdia route resumed on Wednesday after seven and a half hours of its halt triggered by dense fog, reports UNB.

 

The ferry service had been kept suspended on the Paturia-Daulatdia route from 2:00 am to 8:30 am due to blurred visibility caused by dense fog, he said.

 

Seven ferries remained stranded at Daulatdia ghat and two at Paturia ghat.

 

Besides, eight ferries stayed stranded in the mid-river due to poor visibility caused by fog, he added.

 

About 400 vehicles, including buses, trucks and cars, remained stranded along with several hundred passengers on both ends of the important route and in the mid-river.

 

However, the ferry services resumed around 8:30 am as fog started disappearing with the sunrise.

 

Meanwhile, Gias Uddin Patuari, manager of BIWTC Shimulia ghat, said they kept suspended ferry services and plying of the water vessels from 2:00 am to 9:30 am due to blurred visibility for dense fog.

 

Eight ferries stayed motionless in the mid-river, as thick fog enveloped the area.

 

Several hundred vehicles were kept waiting on both sides of the river for crossing.

 

However, ferry service resumed around 9:30 am as fog disappeared after the sunrise.
