Hindu priest hacked to death in Panchagarh monastery

Criminals have hacked a Hindu priest named Joggeshwar Roy to death in Debigonj upazila of Panchagarh district on Sunday morning.
The incident happened at the Sri Sri Sonto Gouriyo Moth near Korotowa river of the upazila around 7:00am.
In the meantime, another priest named Gopal Chandra Roy injured by criminals' bullets. He has been taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Police and locals said the priests were busy in their morning prayers-offerings. While the criminals attacked them with sharp weapons and fire arms.
They hacked Joggeshwar Roy to death with sharp weapon. When Gopal Chandra tried to escape the scene, the criminals started firing at him. He took bullets in his legs and hands.
Criminals also ran after another priest with crude bombs, though no serious harm occurred to him.
Panchagarh Superintendent of Police Gias Uddin confirmed the matter to the Samakal.
He said every Hindu monastery was under strict security. Who are the culprits and what were their motivations-- police are investigating, he told.
