Most educational institutions in Sharsha have no Shaheed Minar

Most educational institutions in Sharsha upazila of Jessore district have no Shaheed Minar, depriving students of the opportunity to pay their tributes to the country's language movement heroes.

 

Sharsha Upazila Education Officer Abdur Rab said out of total 126 primary schools, only 13 have their own Shaheed Minars while 28 madrasahs, out of 32, and 10 colleges, out of 12, do not have their own in the upazila  although Amar Ekushey is observed across the country through arranging different programs at Shaheed Minars, reports the UNB.

 

Shamima Sultana, a teacher of Subarnakhali Government Primary School, said students in 90 percent educational institutions cannot arrange programs in memory of the glorious history of the Language Movement.

 

Md Ishaq Ali, superintendent of Goga Baguri Madrasah, sought government assistance in constructing Shaheed Minars in local colleges, schools and madrashs.

 

Local administration and public representatives should come forward to build Shaheed Minars in the educational institutions in order to highlight the importance of the International Mother Language Day to the grass root people, said Abdur Rab.

 

Besides, students and residents of the area also sought assistance from the government to build more Shaheed Minars.
