4 robbers hurt in cop firing in Gazipur

Four suspected robbers were injured in a firing by detectives during a robbery incident at Islampur in the city early Friday.

 

A gang of robbers, numbering 10-12, swooped on a garments factory named ‘Oshan Sweater Limited’ around 4 am with the help of Hasan Ali, a security gourd, and looted valuables from the factory, said Iqbal Hossain, sub-inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of police, reports the UNB.

 

Later robbers took the valuables into a covered van and left the scene.

 

On information, a team of DB police intercepted the covered van and challenged the robbers.

 

Sensing danger, when the robbers tried to flee away, the DB police fired gunshots at them around 4:30 am, leaving four of them injured.

 

The four are-- Mamun, 35, Shafiqur Rahman, 40, Abdus Salam, 38 and Hamidul, 40, all hailing from Tangail, Dinajpur and Rangpur districts.

 

Police arrested the injured four robbers while the others managed to flee the scene with the booty.

 

The injured were rushed to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital.
