Witness deposition starts in N’ganj 7-murder cases

A Narayanganj court on Monday started recording the deposition of the witnesses in two cases filed over the sensational seven-murder in the city.

The court of District and Sessions Judge Enayet Hossain started recording the deposition of a witness named Bijoy Kumar Paul around 10.45am.

The 23 arrested accused including prime suspect Nur Hossain and three former Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) officials were present during the hearing.

On February 25, the court deferred to start hearing of the case to February 29 as police could not produce suspect Tareque Sayeed, who headed the local RAB unit in April 2014.

Earlier on February 8, the court framed charges against 35 people, including former city councillor Nur Hossain and three former RAB officials, in the two cases.

In that day, the court also fixed today (February 25) to begin the trial in presence of the 23 accused as other 12 accused are on the run.

On April, 27 last year, seven people including Narayanganj city panel mayor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Sarker were abducted the Dhaka-Narayanganj link road.

Their bodies were later found floating on the Shitalakkhya river. Gutted and the abdomen filled with stones, they were dumped in the river.
