UP chairman candidate shot dead in Bandarban

A chairman candidate for Union Parishad (UP) election was shot dead in Bandarban early Monday.

The victim Shanti Priyo Tripura, 35, was a chairman candidate at Gyalenga UP in district’s Ruma upazila.

Shariful Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ruma Police Station, said a gang of miscreants picked up Shanti Priyo from his house and took him to Adika Para at about 3:00am.

Later, the miscreants fired gunshots at Shanti Priyo and fled the scene, leaving him dead on the spot.

On information, police went to the spot to look into the matter, added the OC.
