4 dead in Banshkhali cops-villagers clash

At least four people were killed and 30 others received injuries in a clash between police and villagers in Chittagong's Banshkhali on Monday.
The clash erupted this afternoon at Gondamara Hazipara School field over constructing a coal-based power plant in Banshkhali upazila of Chittagong.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Md Shamsuzzaman, has confirmed the death to Samakal online.
The dead were identified as- Mortuza (55), Anwar Islam (50), Jager Ahmed (50), Md Jaker (54).
Banshkhali Thana Acting Officer-in-Charge (OC) is among the injured while others could not be identified immediately after the incident happened in the area.
The locals alleged that the policemen opened fire on them while they were protesting a power plant project at Banshkhali indiscriminately but cops refused the allegations.
'The locals swooped on policemen during two groups' clash at the Gondamara but police tried to bring the situation under control,' the police sources said.
