Shooting minor: Charge sheet filed against MP Liton

Police has filed a charge sheet against Awami League MP of Gaibandha-1 constituency Manjurul Islam Liton over shooting of a 12-year-old boy in Sundarganj upazila of the district.

The charge sheet was submitted before the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of Gaibandha on Sunday. The same court granted permanent bail for the lawmaker earlier.

“The court sent case file to the chief judicial magistrate for its next course of action after filing of the charge sheet and fixed May 15 for next hearing,” said the court Inspector Enamul Haque.

Earlier in the day, AL lawmaker Manjurul Islam Liton appeared before Sundarganj Cognisance Court's Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Moinul Hasan seeking permanent bail in this connection and the court granted him bail.  


Fourth-grader Shahadat Hossain Sourav was injured on October 2 when MP Liton allegedly fired at him. His father Shaju Mia filed a case against Liton the next day.

Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested the AL lawmaker from Uttara area of Dhaka On October 14.

The incident, back then, drew flak all over the country. Then, the licences of two firearms of the MP were revoked for ‘the sake of public safety’.
