Khulna jute mills' workers call off protests

Three-day after the road and railway route blockade, the state-run jute mills’ workers in Khulna region have called off their protest programme following a meeting with the government.

M. Imaz Uddin Pramanik and Mirza Azam, respectively the minister and the state minister for jute, held the meeting on Wednesday with the workers who were holding the blockade programme to press for their five-point demand.

“They are withdrawing their protests from this moment. They will return to the factories from the next working day,” Mirza Azam announced in presence of the workers’ leaders.

The workers of seven state-run jute mills in Khulna had started the blockade programme from last Monday to press for their five-point demand.

The five-point demand of the jute mills’ workers includes payment of dues of last eight weeks and dearness allowance.
