Shackled by teacher for 4 months, madrasah student rescued

Police have rescued a ten-year-old madrasah student from Magura’s Vaina More bus-stand, whose ankle was found to be tied up in a shackle and a big block of wood late Monday.

The boy was identified as Abuzar, son of Abdul Alim, hailing from the district’s Indra village under Bagharpara upazila, reports UNB.

Police and the boy informed that he was bound by shackles by his madrasah teacher, Jahangir Hossain, so that he could not escape.

Abuzar was admitted at Bagharpara’s Darilakur madrasah three years ago, but was physically assaulted by Jahangir ever since.

This motivated him to flee the madrasah on several occasions, but was convinced by his father every time to return.

Jahangir therefore devised a method of tying him in shackles and wood so that he could not escape four months ago, also forcing him to solitary confinement.

Allegations have been brought up against the boy’s family as they had reportedly given their consent to Jahangir’s tactics.

Abuzar later successfully was able to escape on Monday evening and board a Magura-bound bus, where after getting off at Vayna, locals spotted his questionable shackles and informed the police.

Officer-in-Charge of Magura Sadar Police Station, Ajmal Huda, said that a local journalist had brought the shackle-bound boy to their station late Monday, after which they informed his father.

He was later handed over to Bagharpara Police Station, where they are reported to take all necessary legal actions.

OC of Bagharpara Police Station Sairuddin Ahmed said that Abuzar’s family members are currently being questioned, where they have claimed that he had escaped from home and not from the madrasah.

Police later found about their consent to tying Abuzar up in shackles and issued them a warning not to repeat it again.
