Polls violence kills 2 in Narsingdi, Thakurgaon

Two people have been killed in Narsingdi and Thakurgaon districts in violence during the 4th phase of Union Parishad (UP) polls.  

At least 20 others were also sustained injuries in the separate polls violence on Saturday.

Our Narsingdi correspondent reports, a man named Ali Hossain, 55, was killed and seven others injured in a clash at Madho Nagar polling center of Baratoli union under Raipur upazila this noon.  

According to witnesses, a clash erupted between the supporters of ruling Awami League blessed candidate Mahmudur Rahman and independent candidate Zakir Hossain at the polling centre, leaving Ali Hossain dead and seven others injured.

Azharul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Raipur Police Station, confirmed the incident to Samakal.  
 

Our Thakurgaon correspondent reports, Mahbub Alam, 25, was killed in a clash at Paria union under Baliadangi upazila in the district during the violence while at least 13 were also injured.

Locals said that Mahbub received a bullet during the clash between the supporters of two member candidates in Baliadangi upazila in Thakurgaon this afternoon.

Confirming the matter, Baliadangi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aminul Islam said additional police forces were deployed in the area.
