Woman ‘beaten to death by in-laws’ over dowry

A housewife was beaten to death allegedly by her in-laws at Kalupukur village in Ghoraghat upazila on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Selina Begum, 30, wife of Mantu Miah, a resident of Ghoraghat village, reports UNB.
Quoting locals, officer-in-charge of Ghoraghat Police Station Nuruzzaman Chowdhury said Mantu Miah and his family members used to torture Selina over dowry for long time.
On Friday night, they locked in an altercation with Selina over the same issue.
At one stage, they started beating her up, leaving her dead on the spot.
However, the family members poured pesticides in Selina’s mouth to make it appear like a suicide.
On information, police rushed to the spot and arrested Mantu, his mother Mazida Begum and father Israil Miah in connection with the incident.
