Pre-polls violence: One dead in Ctg

At least one person was killed in a clash at Anowara upazila under Chittagong division ahead of Union Parishad election scheduled to be held on Saturday (tomorrow).

 

The clash erupted at Bairag union's Khalifa para polling station on Friday afternoon.

 

The dead was identified as Md Faruk, 35 in the area.

 

Police and local sources said, Faruk received injuries when two groups of people locked into clash with each other and died this evening while undergoing treatment at the Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

 

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Chittagong Medical College Hospital police outpost, Pankaj Barua, has confirmed the death to Samakal adding that several injury marks have been found on Faruk's body.

 

The last phase of the Union Parishad (UP) polls in 710 unions across the country will be held tomorrow amid tight security.
