1 killed in Feni polls violence

A man was shot dead and 28 people were injured, including 20 with bullets, as violence broke out at different polling centres in Sonagazi upazila on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Nur Hossain Shipon, 22, son of Abdul Karim, a resident of Dakkhhin Char Kandia union of the upazila.

Rezaul Haque, superintendent of police of Feni, said a clash erupted between the supporters of AL-backed chairman candidate Mosharof Hossain and BNP- backed candidate Shamsuddin Khokan in Tofael Ahmed High School polling centre at Dakkhhin Char Kandia union in the morning.

The rival party men exchanged gunfire during the clash, leaving Shipon dead on the spot, UNB reported.

Four policemen, three Ansar members, 2 assistant presiding officers, 2 female polling officers also received bullet injuries during the clash.

The injured were admitted at Sonagazi Upazila Health complex.

Meanwhile 17 people sustained injuries, including 9 with bullet, in different polling centers of the upazila.
