Hindu priest killed in Jhenidah

In another instance of the escalating trend of target killings, a Hindu priest was hacked to death by miscreants in Koratipara village of Jhenidah Sadar upazila on Tuesday morning.

The victim has been identified as Ananta Kumar Ganguly, 70, a resident of the village and son of Satya Gopal Ganguly. He was the priest of local Noldanga Temple. 

Hasan Hafizur Rahman, OC of Jhenidah Sadar Police Station, said the assailants, armed with sharp weapons, slit Ganguly’s throat around 9:00am while he was on his way to the temple he served.

Three assailants, riding a motorbike, intervened the priest near Sonakhali canal, he said adding that the assailants first shot the victim and then hacked on the neck to confirm death.

“This killing style is resembled of the previous recent killings. So, we are suspecting the militant link with the killing of the priest,” added the OC.
