4 killed as train rams into private car in Jessore

At least 4 people were killed and two others injured when a train rammed into a private car at Mathurapur-Manikdihi Jamtola level crossing under Jessore Sadar upazila around 11:30am on Thursday.

Among the deceased, three were identified as Chayan, 12, son of Nittapad Das of Tirer Hat village, Jaya Rani Sarkar, 50, and Rezaul Karim Raju, 38, of Chachrail village under Keshabpur upazila.  However, name of the dead driver of the car could not be known.

The injured are dead Chayan’s mother Deepika Rani and Badhon Das, 15. They were admitted to a hospital.

“We have heard about the incident and causalities, said Ilias Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jessore Kotwali Police Station, adding that railway police have been sent to the spot.


Manik, sub-inspector of Jessore Kotwali Police Station, said the private car was going to Tirer Hat village under the Sadar upazila. Meanwhile, Dhaka-bound train Chitra Express hit the car at Jamtola level crossing, leaving two dead on the spot while two others died at hospital, he said.

The four bodies have been taken to Jessore Medical College Hospital, added the SI.

Idris Ali, in-charge of Jessore railway police, said the commuters are supposed to cross the Jamtola level crossing on their self account.
