Mitu murder: 2 accused killed in 'gunfight'

Two accused in SP Babul Akter’s wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu murder case have been killed in a reported gunfight with police in Chittagong on Monday night.

 

The dead claimed by police are identified as Md Rashed and Md Nurunnabi.

 

Police says, the two murder accused were killed in a gunfight at Ranirhat union in Rangunia upazila under Chittagong division on Monday mid-night.

 

Chittagong Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Iqbal Bahar, has confirmed the dead and gunfight to Samakal today.

 

Earlier the police seized one microbus with its driver that was allegedly used in the killing mission of Superintendent of Police Babul Akhter’s wife, Mahmuda Khanam Mitu.

 

After the murder, the Chittagong police primarily assumed that the miscreants used stolen motorbike in the killing mission Mahmuda Khanam Mitu.

 

'Some preliminary evidences are in our hands in this regard but we have to wait for detail information to be ensured,' the Chittagong Metropolitan Police sources told Samakal some days after the murder.

 

CMP Commissioner, Iqbal Bahar, said, 'On the basis of some documents, it assumes that the miscreants used stolen motorbike in the killing but investigation is going on in this connection till now.'

 

Some unidentified miscreants gunned down wife of the superintendent of police at GEC intersection area under Panchlaish thana of Chittagong on June 5 morning.

 

The Superintendent of Police was in Dhaka as he was promoted as police super just last month.

 

The miscreants gunned down Mahmuda Khanam at the area while she went there to drop her son, Mahir Akhter, 7, for a bus to Chittagong Cantonment Public School and College on the day.
