DB to investigate killing of Comilla University BCL leader

The case for the killing of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader Khaled Saidullah at Comilla University was transferred to the Detective Branch (DB) of Police for investigation on Tuesday, reports the UNB.

 

The case was filed with Comilla Sadar Dakkhin Model Police Station earlier on Monday night.

 

The university’s security officer Sadeq Hossain filed the case against 150 unidentified people for their alleged involvement in the killing of BCL leader Khaled Saifullah, said superintendent of Comilla police M Shah Abid Hossain.

 

The case has been transferred to the DB and its sub-inspector Shah Alam Akond has been made the investigation officer, he added.

 

Meanwhile, police detained six students of the university from the campus and recovered a pistol and lethal arms during raids at different halls on Monday night.

 

Officer-in-charge of the DB AKM Mazur Alam said six suspects are being quizzed at local the DB office.

 

If it is found that someone is involved in the murder case, he will be shown arrested and will be produced before court, he added. 

 

Khaled Saifullah, a student of the Marketing Department and organising secretary of the Kabi Nazrul Hall unit of BCL, was killed and five others were injured in a factional clash on the campus on Monday morning.

 

The clash ensued between the followers of university unit BCL president Alif and another BCL leader Ilias Sabuj centering lighting of candles in front of the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the campus in observance of the Month of Mourning.

 

During the fight, the two sides exchanged gunshots leaving Khaled, a follower of Sabuj group, injured with bullets.

 

Khaled was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead.

 

The clash prompted the authorities to shut down the university for an indefinite period.
