6 to walk gallows for raping in Narsingdi

A tribunal here on Tuesday convicted six people and sentenced them to death for raping a female employee of Pran Group at Bhatpara village in Palash upazila in 2013.

 

The condemned convicts are Ashiqur Rahman, 35, son of late Kudrat Ali, Ilias, 21, son of Tajul Islam, Rumen, 20, son of Siraj Sheikh, Robin, 20, son of Hanifa, Ibrahim, 22, son of Montu Miah, and Abdur Rahman, 24, son of Salam Miah. All the convicts are the residents of Bhatpara village.

 

The tribunal also fined them Tk one lakh each, reports UNB.

 

According to the case statement, the victim was returning home from her workplace around 9pm on May 17, 2013. As she reached Bhatpara village, the six convicts intercepted her, forcibly took her to a desolate spot and raped her by turns.

 

Later on May 18, a Pran Group employee filed a rape case with Palash Police Station in connection with the incident.

 

After examining records and 12 witnesses, Shamima Ahmed, Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal of Narsingdi, handed down the verdict.
