HC releases full text of Ahsanullah Master murder verdict

The High Court today released the full text of its verdict that upheld death for six and life imprisonment for another seven persons convicted for killing Ahsanullah Master, reports the BSS.

 

The High Court on June 15 passed the order acquitting 11, who were initially convicted by the trial court for the heinous killing.

 

The High Court released the 182-page verdict as Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath, the two members of the bench that passed the order, signed on it.

 

Ahsanullah Master, a veteran freedom fighter, labour leader and teacher, was brutally murdered in broad daylight by a group of terrorists patronized by the then four-party alliance government on May 7, 2004. His brother Motiur Rahman filed a case with Tongi Police Station the next day against 17 people and another 10/12 unidentified miscreants in connection with the murder.

 

A speedy trial tribunal on April 16, 2005, sentenced 22 people to death and another six to life imprisonment. The convicts later filed appeals with the High Court at different times seeking acquittal.
