5 killed in Comilla car plunge

Five people including three children were killed and three others were injured as a private car plunged into a roadside ditch in Comilla.

The incident took place at Silenia Bridge on the Noakhali-Comilla highway in Laksam upazila around 7:30am on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Anwarul Kabir Sohag, 40, a official of Al-Arafah Bank, his son Shahed Al Mustakim, 4,  Shahabuddin Robi, 45, a official at Berger Paints, his daughters Raika Tabassum, 7, and Raisa Muntasir, 12. They are from Sobhanpur village under Chatkhil upazila.

Officer-in-charge of Laksam Police Station Asrafur Rahman said the Dhaka-bound private car, coming from Noakhali, fell into a roadside ditch after hitting a bridge in the area as its driver lost control over the steering aroundm, leaving the five dead on the spot.

The injured were admitted to Laksam Upazila Health Complex and Comilla hospital, he added.
