Santal crisis: Case filed, 5 held

A case has been filed over the recent attack on Santal community in Gaibandha's Gobindaganj.

 

Shawpon Murmu, son of Shomeswar Murmu, has filed the case on behalf of the Santal community with the Gobindaganj police station around 9.30 pm on Wednesday (Yesterday).

 

Gobindaganj thana Acting Officer-in-Charge (OC), Subrato Kumar Sarkar, has confirmed in this regard to Samakal today.

 

A total of five alleged attackers, however, have been detained over the incident after conducting separate drives in the area.

 

The held are identified as Manik Sarkar, 26; Choyon Mia, 20; Bachcha Mia, 50; Abdur Rashid, 26 and Shahnewaj, 38.

 

Police on November 15 sent two Gaibandha Santal men to jail through court order as Rangpur Medical College Hospital authorities released them from the Hospital after treatment.

 

They are Choron Soren and Bimal Kisku, both were undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital after they got injured in the recent incident.

 

Gobindaganj Thana Police on the day took them to Gaibandha from Rangpur.

 

On November 6 a clash was ensued when the Santal community there protested the grabbing of their lands by some sugar mill workers with the help of police, three indigenous men were killed and 30 people injured.
