3 killed in Meherpur ‘gunfight’

Three suspected robbers were killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in Gangni upazila of Meherpur.

The gunfight took place near a brick field at Motmura village under the upazila last midnight.

The deceased could not be identified immediately.

Gangni Police Station OC Anwar Hossain said on secret information, a team of police conducted the drive near the brick field at the village last midnight while the robbers were preparing for robbery.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire at them, prompting a retaliation that triggered a gunfight, leaving the three robbers dead on the spot, he said.

Six police personnel were also injured in the incident said the OC adding that police recovered two guns, two hand bombs, several rounds of from the spot.
