5 'militants' held with arms in Ctg

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained three suspected militants after raiding a hideout at Colonel Haat in Chittagong on Thursday morning.

The elite force also detained two other suspected militants from AK Khan area of the port city earlier, according to RAB.

The detainees were identified as: Taijul Islam, Nazim Uddin, Abu Jar Gifari, Nur-e-Alam, and Ibtisham Ahmed.

Md Sohel Mahmud, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and in-charge of RAB-7 media wing, said a team of RAB detained Taijul and Nazim, suspected members of Harkat-ul-Jihad Bangladesh (Huji), from AK Khan area around 6:30am.

RAB media wing director Mufti Mahmud Khan said based on the information gleaned from Taijul and Nazim, the elite force members conducted the raid inside a three-storey house at Mukim Talukdar Para of Colonel Haat and detained the three militants.

The RAB members also recovered huge ammunitions and firearms from their possession, said Mufti Mahmud adding that the five militants are now in RAB custody.
