PM's ride: Tungipara rickshaw-van puller gets job in Air Force

The desire of the rickshaw-van puller, who gave Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her family members a tour on his rickshaw-van, has been fulfilled as he has got a job.

Bangladesh Air Force has given the 17-year-old rickshaw-van puller Imam Sheikh the job which he desired earlier.

Sheikh Hasina along with some of her extended family members took a travel in her native village at Tungipara in Gopalganj riding on Imam’s rickshaw-van on Friday.

A three-member team of Bangladesh Air Force’s Bir Sreshtho Matiur Rahman Base, led by Squadron Leader Harun or Rashid, went to Imam’s house this morning and gave him an appointment letter.

Harun or Rashid also gave Imam’s family Tk 40,000 as assistance for his mentally ill father Abdul Latif Sheikh’s treatment and repairing their home.  

Imam has been given the job in Bangladesh Air Force as per the higher authorities’ direction, said Harun or Rashid adding, “We are too taking the rickshaw-van, on which the PM took ride, in Jessore and it will be kept in Museum.”

Tungipara upazila chairman Gazi Golam Mostafa and Press Club president Gulam Quadir signed the appointment letter of Imam as the witnesses. Meanwhile, Imam started for Jessore riding on Air Force’s vehicle around 12:00pm taking his rickshaw-van and baggage.

The prime minister’s photo of her nostalgic ride on the rickshaw-van went viral. The media also highlighted its puller Imam Sheikh.
