Mayor Miru held over journo Shimul murder

The police members detained the Mayor from capital’s Shyamoli area around 9.45pm on Sunday.

 

Superintendent of Police in Sirajganj, Md. Miraz Uddin Ahmed, has confirmed the detention to Samakal tonight.

 

Earlier the passport number of Sirajganj's Shahjadpur municipality Mayor Halimul Haque Miru, who allegedly shot dead daily Samakal's Shahjadpur Correspondent- Abdul Hakim Shimul- was blocked.

 

The immigration police blocked the passport on Sunday, says senior information officer of the Police Headquarters, Kamrul Ahsan.

 

Journalists in the capital today formed a human chain program that was held in front of the National Press Club, demanding justice for the killing of daily Samakal's Shahjadpur Correspondent Abdul Hakim Shimul.

 

From the program, the journalists demanded the trial of Shahjadpur Municipality Mayor Halimul Haque Miru at the speedy trial tribunal as soon as possible.

 

Samakal Journalist Abdul Hakim Shimul sustained bullet wounds during a clash between the supporters of ousted Shahjadpur Municipality Awami League president Abdur Rahim (VP Rahim) and the party unit's Organizational Secretary and Mayor Halimul Haque Miru in Monirampur area of Sirajganj’s Shahjadpur on Thursday.

 

Shimul succumbed to his injuries around 1:00pm on Friday while being taken to Dhaka from Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College in Bogra for better treatment.
