Mayor Miru’s driver held over journo Shimul murder

Police have made another arrest over the murder of daily Samakal's Shahjadpur Correspondent Abdul Hakim Shimul.

Shahin Alam, 28, driver of Sirajganj's Shahjadpur municipality Mayor Halimul Haque Miru, was arrested from the municipality area on Monday evening.  

Confirming the matter, Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Shahjadpur Police Station, said nine arrests were made till now over the murder.

Miru’s driver Shahin is the suspected accused in connection with journalist Shimul murder, he said.

Police around 10.00pm on Sunday arrested Mayor Miru, who allegedly shot Shimul, from capital’s Shyamoli area.

Samakal Journalist Abdul Hakim Shimul sustained bullet wounds during a clash between the supporters of ousted Shahjadpur Municipality Awami League president Abdur Rahim (VP Rahim) and the party unit's Organisational Secretary and Mayor Halimul Haque Miru in Monirampur area of Sirajganj’s Shahjadpur on Thursday.


Shimul succumbed to his injuries around 1:00pm on Friday while being taken to Dhaka from Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College in Bogra for better treatment.
