Voting underway in Gaibandha by-polls

The voting in by-election of the Gaibandha-1 constituency is now underway peacefully.
Voting has been started at 8am and it will continue till 4pm without any break.
Voting was taking place in 109 polling centres in Gaibandha by-polls to elect a new lawmaker as the post fell vacant after former MP Manjurul Islam Liton was shot dead in December 2016.
AL-nominated Golam Mostafa Ahmed and Jatiya Party-nominated Barrister Shamim Haider Patwari, are contesting as the main candidates, in the polls.
According to family sources, three men riding on a motorbike came to Liton's house on December 31 evening last year and managed to flee after shooting him to dead.
