Raid continued in Sylhet ‘militant den’

The joint forces led by Army Para-Commando Battalion have been continuing operation at a suspected militant den at Sibbari area under Dakshin Surma upazila in Sylhet on Sunday.

They started the raid around 8:30am on Saturday and sounds of firing were heard from Saturday night and Sunday. The sound of seven bombs blast also heard around 2:00pm today .

Six persons including two police members were killed during the raid.

Brigadier General Fakhrul Ahsan, of the army headquarters said journalist on the spot on Saturday evening that thed drive will continue.

He further said "Including 21 women and 30 men, a total of 78 persons were rescued from the operation zone. The militants from inside the house have hurled 10 to 12 grenades toward the law enforcement members.

Earlier the army codenamed the assault as 'Operation Twilight' changing from 'Operation Spring Rain' which was given by Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT).

Uster Mia, owner of the house, yesterday said the five-storey building has six units on its each storey and 27 families are living there.

A man named Kawser Ali identifying himself as an officer of a private company rented the house in January and his wife’s name is Marjina, said Ripon, son of the house owner.

According to police, they detected an anomaly in the tenant's information of Uster Mia’s house. Meanwhile, miscreants hurled a bomb on the law enforcers from the ground floor when they were searching the house on Thursday midnight.
