Honey-collector killed, another injured in Sunderbans tiger attack

A honey collector was killed while his brother sustained injuries after a tiger attacked them in Satkhira range of the Sunderbans.
The incident took place in Dingimari Khal area near Mahmuda river early Monday.  

The deceased was identified as Ruhul Amin Sheikh (35) while the injured was Hossain Sheikh. Both are the son of Malek Sheikh of Chandnimukha village of Gabura union under Shyamnagar upazila.  

The member of the forest department recovered the dead body from Dingimari Khal around 12:00pm on Monday.

Gabura Union Parishad Chairman Masudul Alam said the siblings have legal pass to collect honey from the Sunderbans. In the early hours today, Ruhul Amin went under the horrible attack while collecting honey near Dingimari Khal, he said.

Hossain Sheikh sustained injuries when he had gone to rescue his brother. Later, the members of forest department along with fishermen and other honey collectors rescued him and recovered the dead body of his brother Ruhul Amin.

Syed Mannan Ali, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shyamnagar Police Station, said that he heard the incident and was looking into the matter.

Maksud Alam, assistant conservator of the forest, however, confirmed the incident of the deadly tiger attack.
