Motor Owners Association calls for transport strike in Rangpur

District Motor Owners Association has called for a transport strike in Rangpur to be effective from 12 am on Friday.

The strike will continue till Saturday night, Rangpur District Motor Owners Association President AKM Mozammel Haque confirmed this information to The Daily Samakal.

However, the strike has not been officially announced yet, he said adding that the letter calling for the strike has been sent to the leaders of the Motor Owners Association.

The Motor Owners Association said that the strike has been called for banning three-wheelers from the highway and realizing other demands.

Incidentally, BNP has announce to hold a divisional mass rally in Rangpur on Saturday.

The BNP has called mass gatherings in ten divisional cities of the country to protest against the increase in prices of essential commodities including fuel oil, rice and pulses, the killing, attacks and lawsuits of activists and the release of party chairperson Khaleda Zia, the caretaker government during the election period. Among them, rallies were held in Chittagong, Mymensingh and Khulna.

The activists are preparing to make the rally a success in Rangpur on Saturday. At the district and upazila level also, the leaders and activists are distributing pamphlets, public relations, road meetings to increase the attendance of the gatherings along with preparatory meetings.

Earlier, the bus owner group had called for a strike from the day before the BNP's mass rally in Barishal.
