Chuadanga witnesses lowest temperature

The lowest temperature in Bangladesh is been recorded in Chuadanga, a border district in the southwest.

The weather is making life difficult, and patients with illnesses made worse by the cold are swarming into the Chuadanga Sadar Hospital and nearby medical facilities. 

Farmers are especially concerned about the fog because it could interfere with the germination of seed in seedbeds.

According to Raqibul Hasan, who is in-charge of the Chuadanga Met Office, the district recorded 8.4 degrees Celsius, the lowest mercury measurement in the entire country at 9 am on Saturday.

There were no indications of the sun even as the day went on. The chilly breeze just made things worse. 

In spite of the bitter weather, people from low-income and poorer groups are flocking to the district town to hunt for work because they are unable to find employment in the villages.

Common people are flocking to warm clothing stores to buy those to escape from the cold. The demand for warm clothes also increases the price.

Child consultant of Chuadanga Sadar Hospital Dr. Mahbubur Rahman said that the severity of winter increases, children are suffering from more winter diseases. The hospital is struggling to cope with the increased patient pressure.
