Arsa commander killed by miscreants in Rohingya camp

The commander of Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (Arsa) has been shot dead by miscreants in Ukhiya Balukhali Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar.

The murder happened in the C Block of Camp No. 9, Ukhiya, at around 1am on Tuesday.

Captain (Additional DIG) Amir Zafar of the 8-armed police battalion in charge of the Rohingya camp said, deceased Noor Habi alias Dr. Waqqas (40) was an active Arsa Commander leader. An operation is underway to nab the killers, he added.

APBn police also said that he was top in the list of terrorists in the camp.

On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body, said Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Mohammad Ali.

Ali said, “At night, a group of at least 30 masked miscreants went to Balukhali No. 9 camp and surrounded Waqqas. He was shot while trying to escape.”

“Waqqas was rescued and taken to the hospital run by NGO MSF, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead. However, it is not clear why he was killed,” the OC said.
