2 killed as bus overturns in Rangpur

Two people were killed and 20 others injured when a bus overturned in Ganjipur area of Gangachara Upazila of Rangpur at around 8:30 am on Saturday.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gangachara Police Station Dulal Hossain said the deceased were identified as Jahangir (35) of Ganjipur area, and Suman (25) of Gaibandha.

The injured were rescued and sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, he said.

The ill-fated bus was salvaged while its driver and helper managed to flee from the scene soon after the accident, he added.

Police and locals said the driver of the bus coming from Jaldhaka in Nilphamari lost control over its steering and it fell on the side of the road when it reached Ganjipur Battala area of Gangachara Upazila of Rangpur, leaving two passengers of the bus dead on the spot and at least 20 people injured.
