3 killed in pickup-autorickshaw collision in Bogra

Three people, including child, were killed and six others injured in a head-on collision between a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw and a pickup van at Kunderhat bus stand on the Bogra-Natore highway in Nandigram upazila of Bogra at around 8 am on Monday. 

The deceased are auto-rickshaw driver Hefzul Islam (45), son of late Abu Taleb of Damgara village of Nandigram upazila; Abdul Alim (3), son of Tansen Ali of Omarpur village; and Minhazul Islam (22), son of Sakhawat Hossain of Namuit village, and also a student of Rajshahi City College.

The injured were admitted to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kunderhat Highway Police Station Tofazzal Hossain said, “The CNG-powered auto-rickshaw with passengers from Nandigram was heading to Bogra town. A head-on collision between a Natore-bound pickup van and the auto-rickshaw  took place in the Kunderhat bus stand area, leaving three people, including the driver, dead on the spot and six others injured.

The fire service personnel rescued the victims and sent them to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital.

The auto-rickshaw and pickup van are in police custody, he said, adding that the bodies will be handed over to the relatives after the legal process.
